WEEK 4: ACTION STEPS TO DOING ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST

Scripture Text: Philippians 4:4-13
Emphasis v13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

There's a habit that is common among most believers/church goers and even people who are familiar with the Bible somewhat. That is, quoting scriptures that seem to fit or justify their specific situation.  The problem with this is most times the scripture can be used out of context. Our verse of emphasis is one of those "Paulisms" that's quoted often and can be considered a crescendo or climatic statement to the previous verses.

However, I don't want to come across as a stickler that I cannot accept additional applications of this verse, but I would like to highlight certain action steps to seeing the reality of this verse in our lives.

v4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

This takes us back to how we began our month. Whenever you see the prefix 're' it means to do again or repeat.  Rejoicing in the Lord helps to renew our strength, keeps us encouraged.

V6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

That word careful means anxious and full of worry. These are the derivatives of fear. Faith and fear cannot occupy the same space.  Which ever is dominant will determine if we 'can' or 'can not.'  So
DON'T be full of anxiety and worry but take all concerns to God in prayer.  God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

v8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.

Doing all things through Christ begins with a right way of thinking. In fact, it must be a biblical way of thinking. Paul specified that the believers should think on "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."
